The Whitecap Mountains
Wisconsin's snowiest ski resort is The Whitecap Mountains. Rising 1,100 feet above Lake Superior's South Shore, the resort is within the western front of the Lake Superior Snow Belt averaging more than 200 inches of natural snowfall each year. At Whitecap, it's all about the terrain. For the past 41 years the Lundberg family has sculpted trails to challenge skiers who want to do more than go up and down one side of a hill all day. Here you ski in every direction over Whitecap, Eagles Nest and Thunderhead mountains. Be sure to pick up a trail map when you're getting your lift tickets to help you navigate more than 500 acres of snow fun.
Kinderschule is their innovative learn-to-ski & board program for the littlest skiers and all kids 6 and under ski free here. The Polar Bear Bowl & The Bunny Hill are in their own location, removed from the main ski traffic. There are also programs to help more advanced skiers and snow boarders polish their skills and learn new tricks to have more fun. The unique Alpine Village setting provides an abundance of ski-in, ski-out lodging ranging from traditional hotel type rooms and suites to chalets & condos, many with fireplaces.
